Witmer Promoted To <i>Family Circle</i> VP/Publisher

Today, amidst news that nearly 200 people have lost their jobs at Condé Nast, there is good news over at Meredith Corp., a media company and magazine publisher that has been doing a lot of executive shuffling over the past few months. Meredith announced today that Carey Witmer, Family Circle's publisher, has been promoted to the position of vice president/publisher at the magazine. Her advancement is no doubt due to the success Family Circle has seen in 2009, including four record-breaking issues this year as well as the biggest issue in the magazine's 22-year history, Meredith said. Witmer had worked as publisher for Family Circle since May 2008. She has also previously worked for Better Homes & Gardens, Country Home and Midwest Living. Full release after the jump. Witmer rises to Vice President/Publisher of Family Circle from Publisher, a position she has held since May 2008. The magazine has gained market share over ten consecutive months, and by the end of calendar 2009 Family Circle will have achieved the number one position among the women's lifestyle/service set. The brand was also recognized as one of Adweek's Media's "Magazine Brand Leaders" in 2008. Prior to joining Family Circle, Witmer served as the Associate Publisher of Better Homes & Gardens. She has also held positions including Publisher and Associate Publisher of Country Home and Advertising Director for Midwest Living. During her tenure as Associate Publisher of Better Homes & Gardens, the magazine was named Advertising Age's Magazine of the Year. Witmer joined Meredith in 1998 as the Midwest Manager of Sales for Midwest Living. Witmer was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. The graduate of The University of Iowa currently resides with her husband and three children in Cos Cob, Connecticut. She will continue to be based in Meredith's New York offices on Park Avenue.
