Will eBooks Help Borders With Bankruptcy?

Can eBooks help Borders? Mark Coker, CEO of digital publishing company Smashwords, told the Wall Street Journal that it might.

The WSJ reports: “Borders’s best bet for its future, he adds, is to make a greater commitment to digital reading. ‘Borders has an opportunity to save itself with e-books,’ says Mr. Coker. ‘But they have a limited amount of time to make the jump.’”

And this could be challenging. With Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Apple leading the way with eBooks and devices, Borders will have a tough time competing, especially since they don’t even have their own brand of eReader, and rely on third party partnerships instead.
