WJLA (ABC 7) has announced it’s conducting a nationwide search to replace Kathleen Matthews. The 5PM anchor (wife of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews) is leaving this fall to run corporate communications for Marriott International. (The “announcement” by WJLA is a public relations anticlimax, since Kathleen announced it herself on the 10th of this month.)
“We hope to create nothing less than the anchor team of the future for the Washington, D.C., market,” according to WJLA VP of news Bill Lord (meaning that the replacement for Kathleen Matthews may be, but probably isn’t, already be in the building).
So let there be…audition tapes. Focus groups. Talent agents. Makeup artists. And of course, a few more lawyers.
