America has spoken and Sony listened.
Despite threats of a “Christmas surprise” from hackers, the studio has decided to release the film to independent theaters across America starting tomorrow. So if you’re a patriotic Washingtonian and want to see this movie, here’s where to go to get your ‘Merica on.
As we reported yesterday, Josh Levin, co-founder and general manager of West End Cinema, supported a petition backing Sony’s release of the film. The independent theater has now announced that it will show the movie twice a day (2:30 & 8:20 PM) until at the very least Jan. 1.
Levin has said that West End Cinema will not require any further security measures to be taken, as he does not believe the threats to be credible.
According to The Washington Post, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chief executive Tim League has also announced that the Texas-based chain plans to screen the film. The chain’s Loudoun County location will be among those showing it, as well as Baltimore’s Eastpoint Center 10.
For those of you who do not wish to see it in theaters, you’re in luck. Sony has also announced that “The Interview” will be available on VOD via Youtube.
Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, Saturnalia, and New Year from FishbowlDC! Oh, and go see the movie!
