What Stars Revealing Their New Haircuts Via Twitter Says About Them

Stars have a different relationship with Twitter than you and I. Their opinions and seemingly innocuous comments can be – and often are – published within moments of them posting something. So it’s strange that they have used the platform to debut new haircuts. After all, there is little surprise left these days about their lives, you’d think they’d want to keep it to themselves and reveal it at their next appearance. Which is probably in 15 minutes anyway. But it didn’t take long for the trend to immerse itself in Hollywood. Last April, @JessicaSimpson posted a few photos via twitter that revealed short haircuts in various styles. It turns out that her and her BFF and hairstylist @kenpaves were joking around with some wigs that they were working on. But the tweets caused a commotion with entertainment outlets reporting on it like she’d made a major change cutting off all of her hair, never mind all of the controversy simultaneously happening online. She later told @accesshollywood “The fact that if I cut my hair it would be news is kind of nuts to me. I think that it should be about what a woman is doing in her life.” But something tells me she couldn’t help but know the kinds of reactions that would ensue. This is a woman whose every breath has been documented since the beginning of her recording career and then highly intensified with the MTV hit show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. Since then, many celebs have taken to Twitter to reveal their haircuts: - Rapper @jimjonescapo cut off his signature braids, unveiling it on Twitter accompanied by ".Get a good look at th bad guy this th last time u see a bad guy look this good#SPOOKY #vampirelife #CAPO http://lockerz.com/s/99148565” - @jessicaalba tweeted “New haircut tweeples -thx @renatocampora http://yfrog.com/gy70ynj” - Perhaps most famously, @JustinBieber unveiled his most recent haircut on Feb. 21 on TMZ Live and then Twitter a few hours later: “yeah so it’s true…i got a lil haircut…i like it…and we are giving all the hair cut to CHARITY to auction. Details coming soon…” It’s amazing Twitter didn’t break down due to all the activity. Hairstylist to JB, Vanessa Price calls it “Justin Bieber 2011,” but that didn’t quell the haters, who were formerly known as “Beliebers” and created a trending topic with the hashtag #riphairflip. It’s rumoured that he lost over 75,000 twitter followers due to the “incident,” but it is hard to say seeing as he’s got most of Twitter following him anyway… What this says about these celebs is that either they are completely caught up in their own stardom or they are doing their best to control when and where and what photos are published. It must be a hard place to be. And no doubt their fans are thrilled to have this info shared with them, so perhaps they’re just trying to do right by them. Just be sure to get a good cut.
