The fight is on for the eBook market in Europe. On the heels of news that Google has opened its eBook store in the UK, Kobo has announced a partnership with British bookseller WH Smith. Kobo’s eReaders are now for sale in WH Smith stores including their website. The Kobo Wireless device is priced at £89.99 and the Kobo Touch is priced at £109.99.
The Guardian UK has more: “Customers will have access to the largest ebook catalogue in the UK through the deal, with more than 2.2m titles and 1m free books, while Smiths will sell two versions of the Kobo ereader. Smiths announced the deal alongside a 4% increase in profits to £93m in the year to 31 August despite like-for-like sales falling 5%.”
Earlier this week, Kobo announced a partnership with French book store chain FNAC. The news came just days after Amazon opened the Kindle Store in France.
