Wenner Media Names Rolling Stone Publisher

Hires from within

Jann Wenner didn't look far in picking a new publisher for his baby, Rolling Stone. Chris McLoughlin today was named publisher of the culture and entertainment magazine, from publisher of Wenner Media sibling Men's Journal, a position he's held since February 2012.

McLoughlin replaces Matt Mastrangelo, who was dismissed after three years in the position, which is known for its fairly frequent turnover.

At Men's Journal, McLoughlin spearheaded the relaunch of the magazine's website with a focus on custom video content and the Men's Journal Gear Lab, a sort of seal-of-approval program for gear and gadgets.

It's been an active time for Rolling Stone, whose provocative issue last month featuring the accused Boston Marathon bomber on its cover drew reader calls for a boycott and led some retailers to pull the issue from their shelves.
