Webby Award Winners Announced

The Webbys, once the realm of extreme nerdery, now look like regular old mainstream media awards, doling out special achievement awards to places like YouTube and eBay. The winners have recently been announced for the 2007 awards so on this award-heavy day let’s take a look, shall we?

Electrolux Design Lab took Art, although the Cooper-Hewitt’s People’s Design Award won the People’s Voice Award (fitting). The stellar we-make-money-not-art topped the Cultural category (beating out Design Observer, My Moleskine and People’s Voice winner Treehugger), and Green My Apple (aka Steve Jobs naked) took Activism. By the way, it seems as if Green My Apple has made a true impact–view A Greener Apple, on the official Apple site.

Flickr won the “function” design award (not sure why we have to differentiate that from “aesthetic”) and Jonathan Yuen‘s portfolio site continues to tear up awards shows coast-to-coast with multiple wins. Firms Tribal DDB, Farfar, R/GA and CP+B had the most nominated entries.

The awards will be doled out at a June 5 ceremony which will be notable if only for the fact that David Bowie, Ask a Ninja and LonelyGirl15 will all be in the same room.
