47% Of Americans Believe People Would Watch Porn At Work On Their Mobile Device
A new survey shows that a large percentage of Americans think that people will do things on their mobile device from work that they would never consider doing on their work computers. These activities include everything from looking for another job to visiting an online dating website and even…watching porn!
A new survey from Qumu, a leading business video platform provider, explores the question of whether mobile video in the workplace leads to ‘Employees Gone Wild!’ Their findings show that a large percentage of Americans think that people will do things on their mobile device from work that they would never consider doing on their work computers. These activities include everything from looking for another job to visiting an online dating website and even…watching porn!
According to the Qumu report, “It seems having mobile devices have made online Americans think that people take risks with what they do online (on their mobile device). Almost three out of four online Americans (74%) believe with mobile devices, people will do things they would not normally do on their work computer.” But what do these activities include? You may be surprised.
It should be noted that the following statistics represent what those surveyed think people would do on their mobile devices from the workplace. Not what these people have actually done.
- 52% – Look for another primary job
- 47% – Watch pornography
- 47% – Visit an online dating website
- 46% – Look for a side job
- 37% – Research an embarrassing illness/condition
- 33% – Shop for lingerie/underwear
- 20% – Investigate plastic surgery options
Of those surveyed, a mere 3% admitted to actually watching pornographic videos online. That being said, if you watched porn at work would you admit to it?
Qumo also asked survey participants whether they think people “sneak-a-peek” at their mobile devices during work meetings. 63% believed that people do. The favored methods of sneaking a peek were as follows:
- 47% – Hiding mobile devices under the table
- 42% – Excusing themselves to use the restroom
- 35% – Hiding their mobile devices inside their folders/notebooks/papers
- 9% – Pretending to tie their shoes
- 8% – Creating a distraction
I think that some of these methods of sneaking a peek are hilarious. I mean come on—pretending to tie their shoes? Are we in middle school? I think I side with the 37% of those surveyed that said they didn’t think “sneaking-a-peek” was necessary and that people would just look at their mobile devices in plain view during a work meeting. However, I guess that depends upon where you work.
Finally, on a slightly less risqué note, but interesting nonetheless, Qumo found that 64% of Americans watch online video while at work. What are they watching? The types of online video watched at work are ranked as follows:
- 17% – Have watched company videos online
- 25% – Watch news clips at work
- 15% – Watch viral videos
- 12% – Watch videos posted on social networking sites
- 11% – Watch sports/events clips
- 9% – Watch television shows at work
- 4% – Watch full length feature films at work
- 3% – Admit to watching porn at work
