<em>WaPo</em> Mag Gets Another Editor

After WaPo names a new Pop Culture Editor Joe Heim will move into an editing role for WaPo Magazine. They describe him as a "wordsmith" who "loves to edit." Heim joined the publication in 2000. The memo on him, which isn't half bad as memos go, remarks that "He wrote the memorable Bruce Springsteen profile and recently the story about public clocks for A1, a story he no doubt was inspired to do when he checked a public clock to see how late he was for work." See the full memo... The multi-talented Joe Heim is joining the editing ranks of WP Magazine, we are happy to announce. Joe is a creative idea generator who cares intensely about our journalism, from the serious to the humorous, from the significant to the entertaining. He is a wordsmith who values voice, a dedicated safety net for writers who want to take chances, a true partner in teamwork. He loves to write as well as edit -- we'll take advantage of both talents in the magazine. Joe, a graduate of Berkeley's journalism school and former writer for the Seattle Times, came to the Post in 2000 as music editor at post.com, frequently writing for Style. In 2005 he crossed the river at Deb Leithauser's siren call to edit for Sunday Source. He, Dan Zak and Justin Rude created a very popular humor column called Three Wise Guys. Style hired him in 2008 to edit fine arts, pop culture and general assignment. He's responsible for bringing us special reports on the Kennedy Center and, of course, the Funkadelic Mothership. He wrote the memorable Bruce Springsteen profile and recently the story about public clocks for A1, a story he no doubt was inspired to do when he checked a public clock to see how late he was for work.
