Vivino Surpasses Six Million Users, Unveils ‘My Taste Profile’

Popular wine app Vivino has crossed the six million user mark, and is celebrating this new milestone with the release of new features for its growing number of users. To put its growth into perspective, the Vivino app surpassed three million users at the beginning of January 2014. Over five million wines are now available in the app’s database.

VivinoThis new version of Vivino, Version 8.0, introduces the “My Taste Profile” feature to users. This encourages users to learn more about wine based on their previous wine choices and ratings, and the overall styles of wine they enjoy. The app analyzes all of a user’s data to create an organized and categorized list of the wines users have rated, and turns that data into a pie chart of the most popular styles. This could show users they prefer Californian Cabernet Sauvignon wines the best, for instance, based on their previous ratings of such wines, even if they may not have personally acknowledged that variety as their favorite in the past.

Furthermore, the feature checks a user’s ratings against the app’s database of 248 regional styles of wine, and keeps track of how many different styles they’ve tried. The app offers Wikipedia-style entries for each style of wine, and furthers this slightly gamified experience by giving users a rating based on their experience with each particular wine type. If users try and rate enough bottles of a single style of wine, they can eventually reach the level of Ambassador, and can track how their friends compare on leaderboards.

The overall Vivino app allows users to scan a wine label to see the wine’s rating, reviews and price. Vivino’s pro version, available for $4.99, adds a collection database to the experience, as users can catalog the wines they own, sorting them by price, rating or age. If a wine isn’t available in the database, users are encouraged to add the wine manually, and these pro members are put on the “Fast Track” for manual matching, which sees the app’s team authenticating and adding the information to the app’s database.

“Vivino is by far the leading wine app in the world. It has the largest, most comprehensive database, and the most users by a huge margin. Vivino continues to grow at a staggering rate, and its new personal profile feature is yet another step towards our goal of creating the perfect wine experience,” said Heini Zachariassen, Vivino founder and CEO, in a statement.

Vivino Wine Scanner is available on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and the Windows Store.
