As the end of the year approaches, 2012 roundups, top 10 and top 12 lists abound and this morning Vimeo has jumped on the bandwagon, announcing their picks for the top 12 videos of 2012. As one of the top online video communities for filmmakers, video artists, cinematographers and creatives, Vimeo’s 2012 picks don’t disappoint, filled with some of the most beautifully artistic videos of the year. Official Vimeo mascot, Handstick, a stick with a plastic hand duct taped to the end, "writes" on the Vimeo blog, "We’ve got to hand it to these videos. Each singlehandedly captivated us with its cinematographic handiwork, candidly recorded offhand moments, and downright handsome filmmaking." Holi Presented in slow motion, the filmmaker’s intent with this video of the Hindu festival of colors was "to help viewers further appreciate and take notice in the beauty in life and culture that lies within our world." It truly is beautiful. The Eagleman Stag Mikey Please created this short as his graduation piece at London’s Royal College of Art. He’s in the running for an Oscar. Quik Quik, shot on the streets of Los Angeles, gives viewers a look into the world of street skating. Always A Fire This short documentary tells the story of former New York Giant Chad Jones. Everything is Incredible Everything is Incredible tells the story of Agustin, a Honduran man severely disabled by polio, who has been building a homemade helicopter. As I Am As I Am documents the thoughts and observations of Chris Dean, a young man who received national attention after introducing President Barack Obama at his high school graduation. Le Taxidermiste This 3D animation tells the story of an old woman wanting to pay respects to her late husband in a house filled with taxidermied animals. Tame Impala - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards This music video for the band Tame Impala is created from over 1000 hand-made plasticine collages.
