Vice Expands in Japan

A new deal and an expansion of an existing partnership.

Vice Media has expanded its empire via deals with Japan’s Docomo Digital and AbemaTV.

Vice has operated in Japan since 2012, but the new partnership with Docomo and its new deal with AbemaTV will help grow its impact.

The deal with Docomo will bring locally-produced Vice videos and curated content from Vice’s other brands to Docomo Digital subscribers. The expansion with AbemaTV, a mobile TV app, adds more Vice content to the platform. Vice originally partnered with AbemaTV in April of this year.

“In a time when more and more people in Japan are taking in content through digital and mobile channels, it is important that our programming is available any way a person wants to obtain it,” said Bingo Sato, general manager of Vice Japan, in a statement.
