Verizon Axes Pay-As-You-Go Plans

Engadget is reporting that according to a leaked document from within Verizon, every new PDA / smartphone launched on or after November 14th will “require a data feature / plan of $29.99 or more,” which effectively means that Pay-As-You-Go is DOA. More details quoted from the report:

– Pay As You Go, 1X Block and the 10MB data plan / feature will be unavailable for those very phones on the same day.

– “Select” Mobile Web 2.0 devices will also require a data feature / plan.

The second one is significant because it means Verizon will begin requiring regular feature phones to have data plans as well. Anyone who already has a plan can keep it as long as they hold onto their current phone—but upgrade and it’s all over.
