Verizon Ventures and digital agency R/GA are launching a new incubator that features eight startups focused on everything from ads and virtual reality to esports and media tech.
The inaugural group of their Media Tech Venture Studio is dedicated to growing and collaborating with up-and-coming innovators. The venture, first announced back in March, is one of several programs sponsored by R/GA focused on various parts of the advertising and media ecosystem. Another—specializing on mobile technology—launched earlier this year in partnership with Snapchat, while yet another is geared toward the Internet of Things.
According to Verizon, the startups—which will be based out of Alley, a Verizon-hosted co-working space in New York’s Flatiron District—will receive assistance on marketing, branding, design and business needs, along with a chance to meet with Verizon and R/GA’s collective network of investors, mentors and brand leaders. They’ll also work directly with Verizon subsidiaries such as Oath, go90, VDMS, FioS and Verizon Wireless.
Among the first companies is Ad Lightning, a startup focusing on improving advertising quality and publisher revenue; CognitiveVR, a firm conducting virtual and augmented reality experiments to improve insights and performance for brands and researchers; and Imposium, a company that automatically uses data to personalize videos. Other members of the class include video-focused companies focused on improving video quality, livestreaming distribution and analytics.
