Vargas Steps Down, Gibson Takes Over At WNT

Well, that little two-person experiment didn’t last long, although we suppose that a devastating injury (for Woodruff) and a pregnancy (for Vargas) can have that kind of effect.

ABC News has named Charles Gibson as sole anchor of “World News Tonight.” Elizabeth Vargas is stepping down for maternity leave, and when she returns, she will head to 20/20, not WNT. As for Bob Woodruff, he also won’t return to the anchor desk when he fully recovers from his injuries sustained while reporting in Iraq.
