USA Today has launched Open Road, a blog/community Web site geared for auto enthusiasts.
Open Road is being moderated by USA Today’s automotive beat reporter Chris Woodyard. Rather than focusing on news, Woodyard will look to facilitate discussions among Open Road’s readers on various car-related topics, ranging from industry news to new vehicle previews to quirky items from across the Web—such as this story on a partnership between General Motors and Segway
Besides fostering discussion, Open Road will serve as a forum for readers to ask USA Today’s reporters and editors for car-related advice and information, said officials.
Open Road is the latest product of an emerging strategy at USA Today, which has in 2009 launched multiple niche content/community sites along similar lines. Just a week ago the newspaper company unveiled the business-traveler aimed Hotel Check-In, while earlier this year it rolled out the gamer-oriented Game Hunters and the White House politics-themed The Oval.
