The University of Michigan Press is giving away two novels for free through its Facebook page. Yes, you read that correctly. Beginning next week, the university is giving away a chapter per week to friends on its social networking page. Thankfully they are not releasing it through Twitter, that would be a pain to read.
The books are Marjorie Kowalski Cole’s A Spell on the Water, a book about a woman attempting to put her family back together in a small town after her husband’s death; and Becky Thacker’s Faithful Unto Death, a historical whodunit set at the turn of the last century.
The ultimate goal is that readers will get hooked and buy digital or print copies of the works. “Of course we hope that folks will buy copies of the books (in print or electronic form) once they’ve gotten a taste – but the online serialization is free, and will be up until Labor Day weekend,” wrote Heather Newman, Marketing and Media Manager at The University of Michigan Press, in an email sent to members of the press.
Either way, it’s a good way to get Facebook fans.
