Ultraviolet, an online community dedicated to championing women’s rights and battling sexism, delivered a petition with more than 53,000 online signatures to the social network’s offices at 335 Madison Avenue and hold a public protest over the fact that Facebook’s board of directors is all-male.

The group pointed out that 58 percent of Facebook users are women, and they are responsible for 62 percent of sharing on the social network and 71 percent of daily fan activity.

Ultraviolet Co-Founder Nita Chaudhary said in announcing the petition earlier this month:

The fact that a company as large as Facebook with a massive global reach does not have a single woman on its board is nothing short of shameful....
