REVEALED: The UK’s 100 Most Influential Twitter Users [REPORT]

The Independent has updated its Twitter 100 list, which looks at the UK’s most influential tweeters.

This year, tycoon and entrepreneur Richard Branson took the top spot, ahead of Sarah Brown (wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown) and (somewhat surprisingly) comedian Alan Carr.

The list was compiled using PeerIndex, judging the authority, audience and activity of the UK’s prominent Twitter users. Additional help from a five-person panel of experts, which included Azeem Azhar, founder of PeerIndex; Elizabeth Varley, CEO of TechHub; Ian Burrell, media editor of The Independent; Rhodri Marsden, Independent technology columnist; and Jack Riley, head of digital audience and content development for The Independent, i, and the Evening Standard.

The panel said that Branson’s “warm, blokeish, man-of-the-people persona that has served him so well in the past has clearly struck a chord on Twitter” and that Carr was now a “genuine Twitter star” (whatever that means).

Comedians,
