Twitter's Character Limit Will Stay 140—Not Expand to 10,000

Despite rumblings of a 10,000-character limit on Twitter, the company’s CEO told The Today Show that the 140-character limit is here to stay.

In an appearance on The Today Show, Jack Dorsey dismissed the rumors of long-form tweets, saying that the company is focused on keeping tweets to 140-characters or less:

It’s staying. It’s a good constraint for us. It allows for of-the-moment brevity.

While many thought that Twitter would go to a 10,000-character limit (what the direct messaging platform allows for now), as a way to compete with blogging services, Dorsey told The Today Show that the 140-character limit will stay in place.

Dorsey, back in January, seemed open to the concept of opening up the character limit.
