Twitter Reveals Top Trends of 2009

TwitterLogo.jpgTwitter chief scientist Abdur Chowdhury revealed the top Twitter trends of 2009 in a post on the Twitter Blog.

The winners were as follows (see the complete lists after the jump): #iranelection for News Events, Michael Jackson for People, Harry Potter for Movies, American Idol for TV Shows, Super Bowl for Sports, Google Wave for Technology and #musicmonday for Hash Tags.

Chowdhury wrote:

Among all the keywords, hashtags and phrases that proliferated throughout the year, one topic surfaced repeatedly. Twitter users found the Iranian elections the most engaging topic of the year. The terms #iranelection, Iran and Tehran were all in the top 21 of Trending Topics, and #iranelection finished a close second behind the regular weekly favorite, #musicmonday.
