Twitter is starting to get serious on the ad sales front.
The fast-growing, short-form communications platform has hired two news directors to head up its new East Coast and West Coast sales operations. Dan Coughlin, veteran of Facebook, has been named director of sales for Twitter’s Eastern region while Amanda Levy, formerly of Yelp, has been slotted in the same role in Twitter’s Western region.
The two executives arrive at Twitter just as the micro-blogging platform begins taking steps to monetize its exploding user base. In April, Twitter unveiled a new platform via which advertisers can purchase ‘promoted tweets’–i.e. ads that mimic Twitter’s patented short text messages and which appear when users conducts searches on the site.
The company is expected to continue to experiment with various ad formats as it further builds out its sales groups. “We’re putting together a top-flight sales team as we begin to open our Promoted Suite of products to more companies,” said COO Dick Costolo in a statement.
