Twitter is Outraged by Justin Bieber’s Grammy Snub

He’s the second most-popular Twitter user, and is the focus of a cult-like obsession on social media. And when Justin Bieber was passed over in what many fans saw as a grievous snub at last night’s Grammy Awards, his fans found an outlet for their frustrations on Twitter.

According to Trendistic, @JustinBieber was being mentioned in 4.8% of all tweets at its peak last night around 12:30 Eastern. As the Grammy Awards was broadcast around the world, Bieber fans made this a hot Twitter topic for 6 hours yesterday, expressing their regret that he didn’t win and their confidence that he was on to bigger and better things.

Bieber lost “Best New Artist” at the Grammys, to instrumentalist Esperanza Spalding. This caused a wave of shock and disbelief among “Beliebers” on Twitter – all 7,000,000 of them.

Take a look at some of the tweets from Bieber’s most loyal Twitter fans.

Some fans were upset and vented their frustration on Twitter:

While others were more magnanimous, expressing their continued love of all things Bieber and their belief that his loss wasn’t really a loss at all:

Although Bieber has about a million followers fewer than Lady Gaga, the number-one Twitter user in terms of followers, the argument could be made that Bieber’s fans are much more attached. You’ll see Bieber fans on Twitter with their location as “in Justin Bieber’s heart” or “Justin-ville”, and their undying 140-character loyalty really can’t be matched.

Bieber himself reciprocates this love on Twitter, tweeting his take on losing the Grammy Award to Spalding:

“As for the awards…of course I wanted to win. Its been & still is a dream to win a grammy. Was I upset…yes. But I was happy for her also”

“I do this because I love it..and I do it for my family friends and fans who support me. I was grateful for the honor and this……Is just the beginning. #NeverSayNever”
