Twitter Has Been Hacked; Password Resets In Progress For 250,000

Twitter just announced that it discovered that hackers may have gained access to “limited user information – usernames, email addresses, session tokens and encrypted/salted versions of passwords” – 250,000 passwords.

This means that even if your password was encrypted you may have been compromised.

They’re sending out account resets now to those potentially affected users. Wait for the email, or just change your password now as a precaution.

Twitter cautions that this was “not the work of amateurs” and also “not an isolated incident” and shares these tips for good online password hygiene:

Make sure you use a strong password – at least 10 (but more is better) characters and a mixture of upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols – that you are not using for any other accounts or sites.
