Have you uploaded a shiny new picture to act as your Twitter cover photo yet? No? Well don’t worry about it, because neither have 92 out of the top 100 brands in the world, either.
As Mashable reports, only 8 of the world’s top 100 brands have taken the time to update their Twitter profile and include a cover photo.
The 8 early adopters are Samsung, SAP, Nike, Nintendo, Ford, Moet & Chandon, Armani and Starbucks. The rest are sticking to their old profiles, for the time being.
Twitter’s latest design change wasn’t that big, largely consisting of the ability for profiles to now display a cover photo. This is similar to Facebook’s own cover photo, unveiled when the company launched the Timeline.
And as Mashable points out, adoption rates were slow for the Timeline too, with just 25 percent of brands choosing to switch over in the first two weeks after launch.
So, while brands might not be boycotting Twitter’s cover photo for any particular reason, it is interesting that they’re not flocking to add another visual branding tool to their arsenal.
Part of the reluctance might be because some of us think the new Twitter cover photo looks a little lame, with the now-awkward positioning of the profile picture and bio smack-dab in the middle, not to mention the white text. However, a few intrepid Twitter-ers have actually managed to make their cover photos look good.
