Think you’re the social media shiznit?
Put your money where your mouth is and toss your resume in the ring to go up against other communications pros for the ultimate social media position: tweeting about Twitter – for Twitter.
So what’s this job all about? It’s a social media manager position seeking the typical credentials, including short-order writing and editing skills and 3-5 years of social-media-specific experience. Easy peasy, right? Well, you also need to be a “Twitter power user.” Bam! If you listen carefully you can hear half the candidates get knocked out of the running.
Beyond that, you need to be able to adopt a brand’s voice. And what’s Twitter’s “voice?” There are hints in the job description. They seek someone with the proven ability to communicate simply, clearly and WARMLY. Thwack! There go the Twitter wiseasses.
The shortlist that will be left, consisting of folks smarter than you or I (when it comes to watching what one posts online) will “work with corporate communications and marketing as well as with colleagues from product, recruiting, sales and the executive team to express Twitter’s values and benefits across a variety of platforms.” One of which will be, undoubtedly, Twitter.
And they’ll be tasked with increasing internal teams’ engagement on Twitter and raising awareness and involvement with their public initiatives, with the ultimate goal being a reasonably steady uptick in Twitter usage and adoption. So yes, they want you to prove your worth as a Twitter ninja or they’ll send you packing. No stress.
If this job doesn’t speak to your strengths, don’t be too hard on yourself – there will be other cool jobs. Just watch for our weekly posts where we share new positions posted at Twitter each week, you’ll see.
