For the September issue of Vogue, Trevor Noah was interviewed by contributing editor Nathan Heller, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Phyllis Posnick. None of which will likely impress either mom or dad.
From the article:
Noah’s family has kept a wry perspective on his international success. “I think my grandmother would be as happy if it was the principal of my school calling to say I’d gotten good marks,” Noah says. Neither of his parents has ever seen him perform; the one time Noah invited his mother to watch him onstage, she declined. “She said, ‘What do you do?’ I said, ‘I tell jokes.’ ‘Don’t you tell jokes at home?’ ‘I do!’ ‘Well, so why would I go out to get what I can get at home?’ ”
Ha ha. Noah’s mother, Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah, is a black South African, while her husband Robert, Noah’s dad, was born in Switzerland. Perhaps the best news here for the incoming Daily Show host is that he is transitioning to a venue that can be comfortably sampled by mom at home.
