— Variety reports that Warner Bros. has picked up “Where the Wild Things Are” from from Universal — “in turnaround,” as the d-girls say. Maurice Sendak‘s kiddie book will by directed by Spike Jonze, with a script by Dave Eggers. The Universal-based Tom Hanks (yes, that Tom Hanks) and Gary Goetzman (pictured at far right, shouldering an ebullient Jonze) produce.
— The Hollywood Reporter announced that “Dancing with the Stars” collides with “American Idol” as Simon Cowell brings Fox “Duets,” in which vocally untalented famous people sing with vocally talented famous people. (Personally, we are just waiting for Cinemax to enter the fray with “Singing in the Shower with the Stars of Soft Core Porn.”)
— Billboard discloses that The Black Eyed Peas have been tapped to headline the sixth Honda Civic Tour, and that in addition, the group has created a custom Honda Civic Hybrid: It features metallic paint designs, Peas-themed graphics, XM satellite radio, a special PA system and Dunlop sport tires, among other features.
In related news, Lindsay Lohan has been asked to design a new version of the Mercedes SLK roadster. It features scratched metallic paint, a smashed rear bumper, and a vanity mirror which accomodates up to six lines of coke.
