Twitter’s relationship with television (and vice versa) is well documented, with fans increasingly taking to the social network to discuss what’s happening on their favourite shows (and with their favourite stars) in real time.
Nielsen has released their list of the top 10 most social TV series, specials and sporting events of the past 12 months. Last year Breaking Bad took the top series crown, but who ruled the roost in 2014?
For the second year in a row an AMC show topped the list, with almost five million people seeing tweets about The Walking Dead with each new episode.
The most-tweeted TV minute of 2014 was NBC’s The Voice, which peaked at 310,000 tweets at 8:59pm EST on May 13, 2014.
For TV specials, the Oscars edged out the Grammy Awards for Twitter audience but the latter generated more overall tweets.
Plus, of course, the Oscars gave us the most retweeted tweet of all time.
None of these shows, however, came close to the might of Super Bowl XLVIII, which clocked up more than 25 million tweets on the night.
