While the content that you post on Twitter will vary depending on your business, paying close attention to how you tweet can dramatically improve your engagement rates. Having a clear call to action, being mindful to use proper punctuation and shortening URLs (with Bitly) are simple steps everyone can take to optimise the quality of their Twitter output, maximising reader interest and significantly improving ROI. 3. One In Four People Worldwide Use Social Media [STUDY] You probably knew that social media was popular – the rapidly-growing audiences of Facebook, Twitter and the other top platforms are heavily touted, after all – but a new study has unveiled just how big social networking has become, and, perhaps more impressively, isbecoming, around the world. In their Worldwide Social Network Users: 2013 Forecast and Comparative Estimates report,eMarketer has determined that one in four people worldwide will use social networks in 2013. This equates to a rise of 1.73 billion social media users from 1.47 billion in 2012, and this global audience is expected to jump to an incredible 2.55 billion within the next five years. 4. Why Instagram Video Isn’t A Threat To Twitter’s Vine Yesterday Facebook-owned Instagram launched a new video feature which allows Instagram users, all 100+ million of them, to record Vine-style videos on the fly. The difference? Instagram’s videos can be as long as 15-seconds, compared to Vine’s six seconds, and Instagram users can also add one of any thirteen filters on the fly to their video content. Pretty darn cool. So, here’s the billion-dollar question: given Instagram’s size and clout, does this mean the end of Vine? 5. The State Of Content Marketing [INFOGRAPHIC] Did you know that 91 percent of B2B marketers use content marketing? And with good reason, too – blogs give websites 434 percent more index pages and 97 percent more index links, and B2B companies that actively blog generate 67 percent more leads per month. Overall, an incredible $118.4 billion is expected to be spent on content marketing, video marketing and social media in 2013. 6. How Digital Marketing Has Changed Small Business [INFOGRAPHIC] Here’s an interesting statistic: five years ago, just 10 percent of small businesses were using social media for marketing purposes. Fast-forward to the heady days of 2013, and that number has leapt to 87 percent. What else has changed for SMBs in the last half-decade? 7. Brands Growing Faster On Twitter Than Facebook [STUDY] It appears that Twitter may bring a smaller, but more active, audience to brands than Facebook does. A new study from social advertising and analytics startup Optimal examined data from 4,330 brands to determine whether each brand’s Twitter or Facebook following outpaced the other. The results are definitely interesting. 8. Do You Reveal Too Much About Yourself On Social Media? [INFOGRAPHIC] As Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn have become an integral part of our everyday routines, sharing private information about ourselves publicly to these channels has in turn become the norm which, in some cases,can be hazardous. In the face of Twitter account hacks, the recent controversy over the NSA’s data mining, and Facebook phishing, how do you keep your data safe? 9. REVEALED: Twitter’s Most Prolific Tweeter (With A Ridiculous 25,768 Tweets Per Day) How many tweets do you send each day? Whatever your number, I guarantee it will pale in comparison compared to Twitter’s most prolific user, who, at the time of writing, has sent an unbelievable 36,462,864 tweets since first joining the micro-blogging social network on August 5, 2009. Which, when you break it down, works out to a ridiculous 25,768 tweets per day. 10. Twitter And Viacom Announce Social TV Partnership Viacom has joined the likes of ESPN and Fox in teaming up with Twitter on a social TV partnership. Twitter announced yesterday that it has joined forces with Viacom to create social video ad campaigns around programs on MTV, CMT, VH1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and other channels.
