A good, innovative idea by WPMI-TV of Mobile, Ala., went bad when text from Twitter didn’t play nice with the picture next to it.
As reported by the Mobile Press-Register, the station’s billboard featured a picture of anchors Greg Peterson and Kym Thurman and weatherman Derek Beasley next to a digital board displaying the network’s Twitter feed.
The problem: A passing motorist on Interstate 10 snapped a photo of the three on-air personnel next to a tweet that read, “Three accused of gang rape in Monroeville.”
The story brought this particular blogger back about 20 years, when a headline in New York University’s school paper, Washington Square News, read, “NYU Spends $1.2M on Building,” and the picture directly underneath the headline was of another NYU-owned building that had caught fire.
