Making the Switch:
Moving from Journalism to PR
Wednesday, March 28
6:30 p.m. refreshments, 7 p.m. panel
As newspapers and TV stations cut back on staff and electronic media take off, a number of journalists are making the switch from reporting to public relations. Have you become one of them? Thinking about making the switch yourself?
Come join the National Press Club’s Professional Development Committee for a lively discussion on the challenges involved in the transition. Expert panelists will debate whether journalists make talented PR representatives with their insights into writing press releases and making the pitch, or whether they are less likely to succeed on the other side of the business. The panel includes:
Herb Perone*, associate vice president for media relations at NASD and former CNN and ABC news producer
Ben Merritt, principal of the Merritt Group, a large PR firm based in Virginia and California
Lori Russo*, vice president of Stanton Communications and former editor and producer for Baltimore’s ABC affiliate WMAR-TV
Patti Tripathi* of TriPath Media, former CNN Headline News anchor (moderator)
The event starts with refreshments at 6:30 p.m.
followed by the panel discussion and Q&A at 7 p.m. in the NPC Zenger Room.
This FREE event is open to NPC members, guests and the public,
but you must reserve at 202-662-7501 or email@example.com.
