Three Ways to End Your Internship on a Positive Note

If you're wrapping up an internship wondering where the summer went, you're not alone. It's hard to believe the end is in sight but as per this piece on U.S. News & World Report, there are a few things to keep in mind to end it on a high note. 1. End with the beginning in mind. Did you accomplish your original goals? The piece points out by reminding yourself of your higher purpose, you'll stay on track during your last days of the internship. 2. Add to the company's talent portfolio. And if you did stay on track, you can self-assess and ask yourself if you were a good investment for the company. Then you can ask your boss to review your performance (hopefully you did this throughout the summer to get feedback along the way). If you think your work will be reviewed in a less than stellar light, leverage the last few days on the job to focus only on quality work. 3. Build your relationships. Sure, gaining valuable work experience is why you took the internship in the first place but it's equally as valuable getting a foot in the door. One way to keep it there? Building your relationships. Even something as simple and thoughtful as sending a handwritten thank-you note in the mail can add a nice touch. Most importantly, you should stay in touch with your colleagues once you leave. Send them a quick email every few months with an article you read which reminded you of them. Social media makes it more easier than ever, too. You can follow each other on Twitter and stop by virtually in a matter of seconds just to say something like, "Thinking of you. Hope all is well!" Connecting via LinkedIn is certainly another way to stay connected. Not only will you tap into their networks, you can ask for recommendations which can help bolster your profile as well.
