GlobalWebIndex has identified three main trends in “social entertainment,” which is defined as “entertainment is augmented by social media technologies” in this ReadWriteWeb story.
First is the rise in real-time, with more people going to Twitter and other social media platforms for consumer entertainment. Second, growth of “packaged platforms;” things like smartphone apps and gaming consoles.
Finally, and most interesting, consumers are reverting back to the passive experiences of yore, with traditional media gaining power. This is because, the report goes on to say, social media networks are used for distributing information rather than creating it.
