ThinkProgress Staff Ratify Their First Union Contract

They're represented by Writers Guild of America, East.

Editorial staff at progressive website ThinkProgress unionized last year, part of a wave of successful newsroom unionization efforts.

But the process from vote to contract isn’t automatic, and today the publication’s staff reached the epilogue of that September vote: The ratification of the collective bargaining agreement between editorial staff, represented by Writers Guild of America, East, and the Center for American Progress, the publication’s parent organization.

Some of the contract’s features include raises ranging from 2 percent to 20 percent, a $45,000 minimum salary for reporters and editors and $36,000 minimum for editorial assistants, an ad-revenue sharing agreement, and 12-week paid family leave for either births or adoptions.
