TheWrap’s Joseph Kapsch Inks Multi-Year Extension

Executive editor's expanded duties will include hosting a weekly online talk series.

JosephKapschGettyImagesThe exact number of years is not being disclosed. But for Sharon Waxman’s operation, this is welcome news as executive editor Kapsch has been instrumental in the site’s growth.

“Both professionally and personally, I’m humbled and amped to kick off this next chapter at TheWrap alongside our stellar team,” Kapsch tells FishbowlNY. “I’m grateful to my boss Sharon Waxman for her support and faith in me and for all the opportunities I’ve been afforded the last two years. I can hardly wait to see what we accomplish next.”

Kapsch joined TheWrap as deputy managing editor in March 2013. A few months later, he was promoted to executive editor. Kapsch, formerly with Zap2It, The Hollywood Reporter and Access Hollywood, has overseen a number of TheWrap hires including deputy managing editor Thom Geier, media reporter Jordan Chariton (formerly with Adweek’s TVNewser), senior entertainment reporters Matt Donnelly, Itay Hod and news editor Jordan Burchette.

TheWrapMagViolaDavisBurchette is also the host of TheWrap’s video series Wrap Trends. Kapsch says that as part of his expanded executive editor duties, he will soon anchor a weekly online talk series in partnership with a major online video network .

Kapsch just wrote his first cover story for TheWrap’s awards season magazine, on Viola Davis. He will be writing more cover stories and have increased involvement in TheWrap Magazine’s editorial direction. Another bit of video that bears mentioning is Drinking With the Stars. It’s a program Kapsch originated while at Zap2It and one that he will continue to producefor TheWrap as the site looks to expand its video footprint. The most recent guest, embedded below, was Geraldo Rivera, interviewed by TheWrap’s party report columnist Mikey Glazer.

Update (November 3):
Kapsch’s association with TheWrap has come to an abrupt end. He had indicated a few days earlier via social media that he would be taking on a new, off-site role as editor at large. But he has since superceded with this:
