Just kidding, but these streamlined, email-only research policies sure seem like the first step.
From an internal Washington Post notice, obtained by FishbowlDC:
Because of buyouts and resignations, the Research Department will be functioning with a smaller staff and is making some immediate changes. For those of you who normally call the main library number or stop by the Research Center, we ask that you instead send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org in lotus or send a message to researchrequest in msgpost. Please be specific in what you are looking for, when you need it, and how it should be delivered to you.
We are also changing our hours. A researcher will be in the newsroom from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM Monday through Friday and from noon until 6:00 PM on Saturday. There will be NO researcher in the office on Sunday. We will notify weekend editors who to contact in case of an emergency on Sunday.
Other changes will follow, but we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through some restructuring.
