The Washington Post Company Gets iCurrent

Right on the heels of announcing the launch of its collaborative online business site with Bloomberg, The Washington Post Co. has acquired iCurrent, an online news aggregator that allows users to create personalized news channels according to interest. The tool works by combining algorithm-based technology and human curation.

While the aggregator’s purchase price was not made public, MediaBeat estimates it to be within the $5 million range.

The move could potentially help The Washington Post Co. make up for the market value it has been steadily losing over the course of three years as well as continue to boost its online presence.
