Digital publisher Sideways has released an iPad app version of Beatrix Potter’s classic The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher.
The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher: Buddy Edition uses Apple’s Game Center technology to let two people in remote locations read the story aloud together. The app also includes Sideways’ “Anigraphic Engine,” a tool that lets authors add directorial commands to their text, graphics and audio. The engine powers animated books with sound effects and voice-over narration.
Like most kids book apps, the new storybook app includes various games, as well as narration and learning to read tools in which a child can touch objects to hear the words read aloud. There is also a coloring book feature in which kids can digitally color a drawing and e-mail it to friends. The app is available in the App Store for $1.99.
