The Sun Faces Bribery Allegations

Poor Rupert Murdoch; he just can’t win. One day after boasting about how successful the Sunday edition of The Sun was, the paper was hit with allegations that it had paid upwards of six figures to “a network of corrupted officials” in the British police force and government for news tips.

The New York Times reports that Deputy Assistant Commissioner Sue Akers, the lead investigator examining Murdoch’s papers, said the bribes were approved “at a very senior level,” were “frequent,” and there were even systems created to make sure the illegal payments went down without anyone finding out.
