EA Mobile has released its latest content update for The Simpsons: Tapped Out on mobile, introducing a comic book-inspired story arc to players. Villains are running amok in Springfield, and our characters’ alter-egos will need to save the day. This event is split into four chapters, or comic book “issues,” and will see players completing new quests, while unlocking new decorative items and buildings for their towns.
This event gives players a free Pie Man costume for Homer, and includes superhero costumes for characters like Krusty, Comic Book Guy and others. While completing new quests, players will unlock the Superior Squad HQ building, which can be built and used to increase the player’s “Hand of Justice” power, as players themselves become the ultimate crime-fighting heroes.
In each chapter of the event, players will collect an overall currency, starting with Carbon Rods. These are earned by tapping on villains in one’s own city (which appear automatically over time), or by reporting crimes (tapping on buildings) and capturing villains in friends’ towns. It’s worth noting, this event has upped the daily action limit from three to six for friend visitations, allowing players to capture three criminals and report three crimes in a single visit, unlocking more rewards in the process.
As players complete the first wave of this event, they’ll unlock a special element known as Arbitarium, which is collected at random from fallen criminals, and used to upgrade the player’s Hand of Justice power at the Superior Squad HQ. These upgrades give players more event currency as they’re unlocked. Meanwhile, collecting Carbon Rods in bulk eventually unlocks the Burns State Prison building and Krusty superhero outfit as limited-time prizes.
In just over four days (of this writing), issue two of the event will unlock, changing player focus from collecting Carbon Rods to collecting Pie Bombs. At this time, new prizes will be introduced for unlocking, including the National Bank of Springfield and two more alter-ego costumes.
The cycle will continue, with new issues being released every few days, until all four have been released. The superhero event will leave the game in 32 days. During that time, players can also purchase a few free and/or premium items from a themed section of the game’s store. One particular item, a Superior Squad Membership card, costs 90 Donuts, and will double a player’s rewards from capturing criminals in their friends’ towns.
