NY Post Was Right About NY Times Layoffs

Imagine that.

As we predicted, the New York Post was right about massive layoffs coming to The New York Times’ newsroom. One week after the Times announced it was offering buyouts to staffers, Vanity Fair reports that the paper will cut about 200 staffers.

This all started with a Post report in April, which declared that “hundreds” of staffers would be out by the end of the year. Almost immediately after the Post’s story ran, Times executive editor Dean Baquet said it was “totally made up” and “cheap guess work.”

Now that the Times itself has announced buyouts and three Times sources told VF that yes, hundreds are about to be unemployed, we wonder — will Baquet apologize to the Post? Don’t hold your breath.
