The Hill Names Richard Beckman President

Richard Beckman joins The Hill as its first president, a move that reunites him with James Finkelstein, chairman of Capitol Hill Publishing Corp, which publishes The Hill. "Richard has proven himself time and again to be one of the great rainmakers in the media business," said Finkelstein in a statement. "The Hill has huge expansion plans in the works across many areas, especially video. I reached out to Richard because I believe he’s exactly the right person to help create and execute these initiatives." Earlier this month, The Hill hired John Solomon as its first executive vice president, digital video, to oversee the expansion of that department. Beckman and Finkelstein previously worked together at Prometheus Global Media (PGM), the former publisher of this publication, with Beckman serving as CEO while Finkelstein was chairman. Beckman joined PGM in 2010 and departed in 2012. "Mr. Beckman has had a significant impact on the development of Prometheus, from the reinvention of The Hollywood Reporter to the re-launch of Adweek and the successful resurrection of The Billboard Music Awards," was how this publication described Beckman's influence at the time. More recently, Beckman had served as chief revenue officer at Vice Media, as the organization was developing cable network Viceland, and had been CEO of Three Lions Entertainment before then, from 2013-2014. In January, Beckman was named chief revenue officer at Thrillist and NowThis parent company Group Nine Media. He explained the jump to The Hill in a statement, saying, "When James first approached me about this role and his ambitious plans for The Hill, I knew the timing was right to work together again. Politics is fast becoming the most important passion point in American culture, and it’s undeniable that The Hill is at the very epicenter. I am very excited about this next phase in the development of this storied brand." The bulk of Beckman's career was spent at Condé Nast, where he held various roles over a span of more than two decades, serving at different points as publisher of Condé Nast Traveler, GQ and Vogue, and as president of the Condé Nast Media Group. He had been CEO of Condé's Fairchild Fashion Group at the time of his departure to PGM. Beckman, who started today, will be based out of New York.
