The Hill Adds A Friday Paper

FishbowlDC swears we woke up this morning thinking that this would be a slow news day…

From PRNewswire:

The Hill newspaper is expanding its award-winning coverage of Capitol Hill by publishing four times a week when Congress is in session.

The newspaper, which has published on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in recent years, will now come out on Fridays as well. House and Senate Democrats plan to extend the congressional week in the 110th Congress and The Hill newspaper is going to be there with them. With lawmakers in town most Fridays, they will need their daily paper providing up- to-date news on the major legislative, lobbying, and campaign issues.

Editor in chief Hugo Gurdon said: “The Hill’s mission has always been to serve the people who work on Capitol Hill. Lawmakers and staffers are going to be at their desks on Friday mornings, so we will be there too.”

Fran McMahon, associate publisher of The Hill, added: “Corporations, associations and coalitions interested in moving the needle on legislation have come to rely on The Hill more than any other publication. They know they can get their message in front of lawmakers who, in turn, also rely on The Hill every morning. With the new Friday issue, The Hill will entrench its position as the best platform for advertisers to get their message to the decision-makers in Congress.”

The Hill was recently honored with four Society of Professional Journalists awards, the most of any Capitol Hill newspaper.

The newspaper, which was launched in 1994 and has become the leading source of congressional news, has the largest circulation of any Capitol Hill publication. Until 2003, the paper was published once a week, then expanded to two and later three times a week.

Gurdon said: “Our decision to publish on Fridays is yet another demonstration of The Hill’s success, rapid expansion, flexibility and determination always to meet the needs of our readers on Capitol Hill and downtown.”

This means that, in 2007, Roll Call and The Hill will publish four times a week and The Politico will publish three times a week.
