The Dead Sea Scrolls? Google It!
The ancient and the modern will go hand-in-hand, as the Israel Antiquities Authority is teaming up with Google to upload digitized images of the Dead Sea scrolls, The New York Times reported.
The Dead Sea scrolls are about 2,000 years old and contain the earliest known copies of every book of the Hebrew Bible except the Book of Esther, and Israel Antiquities Authority project manager Pnina Shor told the Times that once a digital copy of the text is available, it will reduce the need for people to handle the fragile parchment and papyrus.
MegaVision digital-imaging technology is being used on the project, according to the Times, which added that the first online version of the Dead Sea scrolls could arrive in roughly six months.
