Ted Cruz Apologizes for Poorly Timed Biden Joke

His son hasn't even been buried yet...

Ted Cruz is in the news at Politico and Roll Call.

They say comedy is all about timing. If that’s the case, Ted Cruz isn’t much of a comedian.

Only days after the death of Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Cruz (R-TX) thought it wise to crack a rehashed “joke” he’s been using about the Veep at a campaign event in Howell, MI on Wednesday.

“Vice President Joe Biden,” Cruz said to a smattering of awkward laughter. “You know the nice thing? You don’t need a punch line.”

The Biden family, currently mourning the loss of their family member, will hold funeral services for Beau on Thursday. The social media reaction to Cruz’s insensitive remarks was understandably swift and brutal, as the GOP presidential candidate quickly issued an apology on Facebook to curtail the damage:

It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize. The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the Vice President and his family.
