Tablet Shipments Will Grow 90% In 2012: IHS iSuppli Report

According to a new report from IHS iSuppli, 124 million tablets are expected to ship globally in 2012, which is up 90 percent from 2011 when 65 million were shipped. Shipments are expected to reach 311 million by 2016.

The report also found that the new iPad and the lower cost of the iPad 2 is making Apple poised to hold its position as the dominant tablet maker.

The report projects that Apple’s share of global media tablet shipments for the full year 2012 will represent 61 percent of the tablet market, up from 57 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011 when Apple had lost some of its market share to Android competition.
