Super Evil Megacorp, creator of the popular mobile multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Vainglory, has had a busy year so far, not only launching its game in full on iOS and Android devices, but also working to grow the game as an eSport, partnering with OGN for the first Vainglory Worlds Invitational Tournament, which took place last July.
Now, the developer has announced an additional partnership with OGN for the Vainglory International Premier League (IPL), which begins August 16. The Vainglory IPL will feature teams from around the world, and offers a $70,000 prize pool. The six-week league will be broadcast on Korean television in primetime twice each week, and streamed to others around the world.
In addition, Super Evil Megacorp has announced it has secured $26 million in a new funding round, led by Index Ventures. The funding will be used to grow Vainglory on an international level, as well as continue its growth as an eSport.
Finally, Super Evil Megacorp has partnered with Giant Interactive to officially release Vainglory in China. The game will be optimized for the region’s players, and is expected to release on iOS and Android in China later this year.
We are still at the beginning of this journey, and our days are spent perfecting our upcoming updates instead of daydreaming about the future. But today is an important milestone not just for us but for touch screen eSports as a whole. And we’d all love to take the opportunity to extend a huge “thank you” to all the players, broadcasters and YouTubers for helping us get this far!
To celebrate and say thank you we’re announcing two additional double glory weekends—namely August 14-16 and August 21-23!
We can’t wait to show you all what we have planned and to keep working with all of you to build out the Vainglory community, one match at a time.
Vainglory offers three-vs-three team battles, challenging players to destroy the Vain crystal in the enemy team’s base. The game offers a growing selection of heroes, with cross-platform functionality allowing players to compete with others in the same matches across iOS and Android.
