Disney Interactive has announced the newest content update for Star Wars: Commander on mobile devices. This “Echoes of the Force” campaign marks the introduction of two iconic characters to the base-building combat game: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. These characters are the first to use force and light saber powers during combat, as well as other special abilities that players can activate during gameplay. This event is being described the as the biggest content update for the game to date.
The Echoes of the Force gives players one of two storylines to complete, depending on their dark or light side affiliation. If players are backing the Rebel Alliance, they’ll work to defend the Er’Kit people from the Empire, using Luke Skywalker as a new hero. On the other hand, if players have chosen to support the Empire, they’ll work to uncover the Rebels’ plans and destroy them with Darth Vader.
Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader have special abilities that can be triggered during gameplay. This includes the ability to use their lightsabers to deflect incoming damage. In addition, they can cause damage to all surrounding enemies and structures for a few seconds. These heroes are unlocked at Hero Command Level 8.
In addition, this update introduces limited-time units to the game. The Rebel A-Wing and the Empire TIE Advanced can damage shields as they support their side’s ground forces. Meanwhile, another Rebel unit, the Vanguard, wields a rocket launcher, and is helpful in destroying enemy walls from a distance.
Finally, this update introduces a new Tiered Event Rewards system to the game. During a campaign, players will be able to unlock and upgrade new or existing units using Event Points, which are only received by participating in timed events.
Star Wars: Commander is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store, Google Play, the Windows Phone Store and the Windows Store. The Echoes of the Force campaign update goes live this week.
